A photograph missed
I finally found Windy Gulch Cascades. I’d looked for them last fall on my way up to see Fern and Marguerite Falls, but a combination of dry weather and rough terrain confounded me. A little time spent on the great Google led to hike reports from others that gave me the secret I’d missed to finding Windy Gulch. This is definitely not a waterfall that lies within the usual realm of the tourists. For starters, it is small. Where the ‘stream’ crosses the trail, the water doesn’t even seem enough to flow, more widely wetting the dirt. At the falls, that trickle is funneled into some coherence, but not one that would warrant a side-trip to see. This is combined with the scrambling and bushwhacking it took to get to them. I spent more time probing potential routes up the rocks than I did photographing the Falls.
